The United States is home to about 4.45 million Muslims. Every day, practicing Muslims observe their five daily prayers, an integral practice and pillar of Islam.
Although many cities throughout the United States have masjids (mosques), many Muslims find themselves devoid of a safe place of worship at their workplace or school since they cannot afford to visit a masjid for every prayer. Due to the social stigma against Muslims and the political climate, many Muslims feel unsafe performing their daily prayer in public.
Despite the fear, many Muslims find uncanny places daily to perform their prayers. This series documents the places where I have prayed ranging from uncanny and spontaneous places all the way to holy places in Mecca. Despite the location, the prayer rug always points to the Kaba.
