About Me
Mahu Kamal is a photographer and hydrogeologist working toward her PhD based in Tampa, Florida. Her journey in photojournalism started with her deep interest in stories and storytelling.
Born in Pakistan, Mahu moved to the United States at the age of eight. At the age of fifteen, she started to use photography to understand and explore her home country during annual summer family trips, which led to a lifelong love of visual storytelling. Now a PhD student studying hydrogeology at the University of South Florida, she hopes to use her photography to further science communication in areas of environmental issues, specifically ones dealing with water and water quality. Her research and photography have taken her from scuba diving in Florida Springs, to strolling through the streets of Pakistan, to covering stories in rural America during her time as a participant in the Missouri Photo Workshop 76.
In her free time, Mahu enjoys reading, rock climbing, and kayaking.
